‘The New Yam festival is our tradition and many communities in Nigeria celebrate new yam festival. The purpose is to thank God for the strength, power, energy, life and privilege to till the ground and make. God instructed Adam in the Bible to till the soil, so we are doing the same. We are not celebrating the yam but we are celebrating God for his grace and love upon our lives. We sow a yam of 200 naira seedling and we sell it for 1500 naira. It shows it is a true gift from God that we need to appreciate. Many people do not have the source of livelihood but they are making it by farming” Tonimas said.
