Igbo leaders - Ohanaeze, Aka Ikenga, Igboekulie - revisit Nigeria-Biafra war, tells Buhari to act on triple 'RRR' without further delay Image5382

As the agitation for the Sovereign State of Biafra lingers, leading to deaths and imprisonment of many agitators, Igbo leaders and organized groups in the region have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the three RRRs (Restoration, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction) programme declared by the Yakubu Gowon administration for the war-ravaged South-East.
Rising from a meeting held in Enugu recently, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ohanaeze Youth Council and Leader of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Nwazurike, said that, what is fueling the agitation is the outright neglect and marginalization of Ndigbo in the distribution of the common patrimony.
The group in a six-point communique issued at the end of the meeting, pointed out that, whereas the Federal Government is rebuilding the North-East because of the devastation by the Boko Haram insurgency, and also rebuilding the Niger Delta, nothing is being done for Ndigbo which suffered a horrendous destruction and death of about one million of its citizens in the three years civil war.
To assuage Igbos and douse the agitation, Ohanaeze Youth said the entire South-East should be declared disaster area because of the devastating effect of erosion and in addition, the Orashi River should be dredged, an airport should be built in Afikpo while action should be expedited on the repair of Federal Roads in South East among other things.
These done, the Youths believe that agitation, kidnapping in the South-East will abate if not completely stopped.
The communiqué signed by National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro further called on the, “Federal Government to expedite action to ensure that federal roads in the South-East are repaired and put in order, especially, Umuahia/Ikot Ekpene road, Aba/Ikot Ekpene/Uyo Road, Enugu/ Aba/PH Roads, Onitsha/ Enugu Roads, Owerri/PH Exp Roads.
“We urge President Buhari to fulfill his electoral promise to revamp the Enugu coal mine, set up a Petrochemical industry at Ohambele at Ukwa east.” Also speaking, Pan Igbo socio-political group, Igboekulie said its time for the Federal Government to consider rehabilitating South- East region, which it seeming abandoned since 46 years ago after the Nigerian Civil war which practically reduced the region to rubbles.
President of the group, Prince Ben Onuora in a telephone interview with the Sunday Telegraph at the weekend, praised the Federal Government for rising quickly to the onerous task of rehabilitating the North East after the region was devastated by the Boko Haram attacks.
He also lauded the government’s continuing efforts at bringing succor to the people of the Niger-Delta region whom their lands and their aquatic life have over the years been destroyed by the oil and gas exploration activities in the region and recently militancy.
